Get It Out There!

HigherEdJobs.com is an online recruiting tool for institutions of higher education that improves both the recruitment process and the applicant pool for academic hiring units. According to their annual report, HigherEdJobs.com reached more than 19.5 million viewers in 2008. They state: “Over the last five years, the number of visits to HigherEdJobs.com has increased 136%.” With nearly 67,000 posts in a single year, it is evident that HigherEdJobs.com is at the forefront in higher education recruitment needs. For this reason, MU-ADVANCE has purchased a campus-wide subscription that allows all university departments, colleges, and offices to post an unlimited number of positions for one flat fee. Each posted Marshall position offers an institutional profile; a list of other MU openings; information on the Huntington area; and links to the MU homepage, the MU-ADVANCE Candidates’ Resources page, and MU’s Human Resources page. Hiring departments and colleges will receive a biweekly report that contains hit rates for their posted position on HigherEdJobs.com.

In total, Marshall has posted 115 jobs since establishing our account with HigherEdJobs.com. Postings included faculty positions, chair positions, director positions, staff positions, higher administrative positions, and post-doctoral positions. This subscription has been an effective mechanism for coordinating job advertisements for the entire university. MU-ADVANCE administered an Offer Survey to new hires asking how they heard about the position they had accepted. Of the respondents, 43% found the position on HigherEdJobs.com.

Academic units may also request an editing service to make their advertisement more attractive for posting on the website. Since there is no word limit for each advertisement, additional information about the hiring department, university, and area can be added. Send it to us two weeks prior to your desired posting date for this service. The best feature of the site is that we will post it for you! Simply email your job advertisement to Heidi Williams (any additional information required will be requested).
