Meet the MU-ADVANCE Student Assistants Elizabeth Fet As a first semester graduate student, Elizabeth Fet has joined MU-ADVANCE to assist with the program. Fet was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of six. She graduated in May 2006 with a B.S. in Zoology and Environmental Biology. Immediately following graduation, she accepted an internship with the Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), working with the electrofishing crew. Fet is an incredible asset to the program, as she is very familiar with higher education. As an undergraduate student, she was awarded several student research grants, co-authored 5 published papers and worked as a research assistant in the Paleontology Lab four years. In addition to assisting MU-ADVANCE, she continues to work as a research assistant in the Paleontology lab and as a contract worker, measuring mussels, for the department of Integrated Science and Technology. Emilee Dillon Emilee Dillon is a first-year graduate student, majoring in Biology. Dillon earned a B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Sociology, in 2006. A Huntington native, she serves as a senate parliamentarian for the Student Government Association and as the State Coordinator for Alumni and Associates for Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Currently, Dillon is assisting MU-ADVANCE by working with various departments on their recruitment efforts. Rieko Miyakuni Rieko Miyakuni joined MU-ADVANCE as a graduate assistant to help develop and maintain the website. Miyakuni came to Marshall as an international student in 2001 to major in Counseling. She graduated in 2004 with a B.A. and is now a graduate student majoring in Community Counseling. As well as assisting MU-ADVANCE, Miyakuni interns in the Counseling Department through the International Graduate Assistant Internship Program. She works part-time at the Prestera Center for the Respite care after-school program for children. In her spare time, she volunteers United Way. Charlene Pierce As the only undergraduate student, Charlene Pierce was hired on as an assistant to MU-ADVANCE to help with graphic design for the program. Pierce is currently a sophomore, double-majoring in Biology and Chemistry, but has a background and strong interest in art. She is a native of Clarksburg, WV and is a member of the Biology Club, the Film Club and MESSA, an environmental group on campus. In addition to everything else, she is working on a certification to be a dive master in scuba diving. This will contribute greatly to her goal of becoming a Marine Veterinarian.
