Research
Dr. Kelling’s research interests include improving
the lives of animals in captivity through enrichment
and environmental design. This focus includes the
examination of stereotypic behaviors in carnivores
and elephants. She is also interested in
comparative perception and cognition, especially
color vision. In addition, she works on
environmental design and improving the zoo-visitor
experience, through surveys and post-occupancy
evaluations of zoo exhibits.
Teaching
Dr. Kelling is teaching Psychology of Adjustment and
Psychometrics at Marshall. As a Visiting Professor
at Kennesaw State University, she taught several
Psychology courses, including Learning and Behavior,
Social Issues, and Physiological Psychology.
Background
Aside from teaching, Dr. Kelling was the Coordinator
at the Center for Conservation and Behavior at the
Georgia Institute of Technology. In this position
she mentored both undergraduate and graduate
research assistants, and handled the communication
efforts for the Center.
Dr.
Kelling has also served as a manuscript reviewer for
the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science.
