Teaching
Dr. Mitchell currently teaches Math Methods and Materials; the History of Mathematics; and Projective Geometry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Mitchell is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the Marshall and Shirley Reynolds Outstanding Teacher Award, awarded by Marshall; West Virginia Professor of the Year, awarded by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; Fabulous Faculty Member for two consecutive years, awarded by the MU chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society; and the Mathematics College Teacher of the Year, awarded by the WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  

Outreach

Dr. Mitchell is devoted to improving Mathematics education at Marshall and within the state of West Virginia. She helped design standards-based instructional units for online Geometry and College Transition courses, to improve high school students for college.  Dr. Mitchell also participated in the development of the 5-Adult mathematics certification program for teachers.  In addition, Dr. Mitchell helped revise the WV Content Standards and Objectives for mathematics, as well as wrote the Mathematics Program Improvement Reviews.  And, she has served as a content specialist and internal evaluator for two Math/Science Partnerships. 

Service

Dr. Mitchell serves as an academic advisor for the 5-9 and 5-Adult mathematics education majors. She also serves on the following university committees: Reynolds Committee (Chair), Academic Festival Committee (Chair), Faculty Senate, Undergraduate Program Liaison Committee.  In addition, Dr. Mitchell was an ad hoc summer member of the Core Curriculum Committee.
