Dr. Mitchell is the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Service Award, "The Chair" award, given by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She also is the recipient of the following: the Marshall and Shirley Reynolds Outstanding Teacher Award, awarded by Marshall; West Virginia Professor of the Year, awarded by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; Fabulous Faculty Member for two consecutive years, awarded by the MU chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society; and the Mathematics College Teacher of the Year, awarded by the WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Outreach
Service Dr. Mitchell is the Chair of the committee that established the Minds of Marshall Academic Festival at Marshall. This festival shares the vast range of student accomplishments with alumni, the campus community, and potential students. She serves as an academic advisor for the 5-9 and 5-Adult mathematics education majors and on the following university committees: Reynolds Committee (Chair), Academic Festival Committee (Chair), Marshall University Mathematics Competition Committee (Chair), Faculty Senate, Undergraduate Program Liaison Committee. In addition, Dr. Mitchell was an ad hoc summer member of the Core Curriculum Committee.
