Research
Dr. Perry was chosen as the first Drinko Scholar. His research led to the publication of the book Morality, Self-Interest and the Cities. As a result of this book, Governor Cecil Underwood asked Dr. Perry to be on a panel about racism for West Virginia Public television. Dr. Perry’s current research involves the development of a causal model to explain the creation of America (in collaboration with Dr. Alan Gould), and the development of a general theory of power. The American Political Science Association presented Dr. Perry with the Leonard D. White award for the outstanding dissertation in public policy and public administration.

 

Teaching
Dr. Perry currently teaches Power in American Society, American Government, The Politics of Conflict and Revolutions, and a newly developed course called Shapers and Definers of America’s Constitutional System (with Dr. Alan Gould). Since coming to Marshall in 1962, he has taught many new courses important for understanding of political changes as they occur. The most important have been: Political Parties, Public Opinion and Propaganda, and Politics in History (with Dr. Alan Gould). Dr. Perry has won several teaching awards.

 

Service
Dr. Perry chaired the faculty committee that led to the development of the Faculty Senate, and developed a unique program in constitutional democracy for the John Deaver Drinko Academy at Marshall University. He has also served as a reviewer for the Journal of Politics.
