Dr. Yulia Dementieva Associate Professor of Mathematics
Ph.D. (Discrete Mathematics), Emory University
M.S. (Probability and Statistics), St. Petersburg State University, Russia
Research Dr. Dementieva’s main research area is Statistical Genetics. Specifically, she performs statistical analyses for a research group that aims to identify genes that are susceptible to human disease, such as Alzheimer’s, autism, and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, she is developing new statistical methods that can be applied to such research. Dr. Dementieva is also interested in Graph Theory and Combinatorics.
Teaching Dr. Dementieva is a recipient of Marshall’s Fabulous Faculty Award. She teaches an array of Mathematics courses, many of which she co-developed, including Calculus I (Honors), Elementary Linear Algebra, Introductory Statistics, Applied Probability and Statistics (Special Topics), Calculus for Business, Discrete Structures, and Forensic Statistics.
Services and Outreach Dr. Dementieva currently serves on several Marshall University committees, including the University Curriculum Committee, University General Education Ad Hoc Committee, and College of Science Curriculum Committee. She is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Mathematical Society.
In addition, Dr. Dementieva serves as the MU-ADVANCE statistician.
