B.A. (English and Journalism Education), Marshall University
M.A. (Theology and Ethics), Northern Theological Seminary
M.A. (English), Northwestern University
Ph.D. (Victorian Literature; Doctoral Certificate in Women’s Studies) Indiana University

Teaching

Dr. Smith has taught numerous courses at Marshall, including British Literature (ENG 319), 19th Century British Novel (ENG 414/514), and Introduction to Women’s Studies (WS 101). 

Service and Outreach

Dr. Smith has served as the Director of the Service Learning Program since 2002, which helped prepare her for her new role as the Director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL).   

In 2007, Dr. Smith founded and directs Dress for Success River Cities.  This non-profit organization provides appropriate attire and a social network to disadvantaged women who are seeking a new career. 

She is a member of the following Marshall University Committees: INCO Faculty Development Committee, Service Learning Committee (Chair), and Women’s Studies Committee.
