Helen Macdonald is an English writer, poet, and naturalist. She is best known as the author of H is for Hawk, the instant New York Times bestseller and award-winning book which describes the year Macdonald spent training a goshawk after her father’s death

The book has received the 2014 Samuel Johnson Prize and Costa Book Award, has been translated into 25 languages, and is being developed into a movie by Game of Thrones star Lena Headey.

Macdonald writes for the New York Times Magazine and is filming a BBC/ PBS documentary on hawks both wild and tame. Macdonald’s other books include Shaler’s Fish, and Falcon. She is an Affiliated Research Scholar at the University of Cambridge Department of History and Philosophy of Science.
