WVU Game

The Marshall football team in 1915 compiled a record of only one win and eight losses and lost to West Virginia University 92-6, but one play in the game is remembered more than perhaps any other in Marshall gridiron history of that period. The 1916 yearbook, called it the "skyrocket pass," but it has become better known as the "tower pass." Marshall was a tremendous underdog to WVU that November day and bets were Marshall, the home team, would not even score. The Mountaineers and scored three quick touchdowns, but then fumbled the ball with Marshall recovering.
This photo is a reenactment of the famous play.
