If you are unable to register during your assigned registration
window, that may mean that a hold has been placed on your record.
Holds are placed for a number of reasons including academic
deficiencies, student status, incomplete admissions documents, an
outstanding financial obligation, or if a student has not met the
prerequisites for the course they want to take.
For assistance in this area Please call Ms. Crystal Stewart in the
Office of Distributed Education, M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm at

As Marshall University Online courses are equivalent to those
taught on campus, you can expect to spend at least as much time as
you would if you took the class in a traditional classroom setting.
You can also expect to do a significant amount of reading and
writing, depending on the course. back to Courses

While the learning and delivery methods are different, the course
content offered in an online course is the same. Depending on the
course type, you might focus more on reading and writing rather than
listening and observing. Keep in mind that online courses are
college-level courses which offer a different way of learning. These
courses require self-discipline and motivation. Some students enjoy
the flexibility of online courses and the experience of independent
learning. Online courses definitely require focus, discipline and
determination, but the benefits of successfully taking and
completing courses online are great. back to Courses

Communication methods vary from course to course, but most
instructors use email or electronic bulletin boards as their primary
methods. These are "tools" that are part of every online course. back to Courses

Textbooks are available at the Marshall University Bookstore located
in the Memorial Student Center on the Marshall campus. You can order
books online at the
bookstore's web site or via telephone: (304) 696-3622. For your
convenience, the bookstore web site lists required textbooks by
semester and course. You will be prompted to select the appropriate
course number and section number to view the list of required
textbooks for your course.
Textbooks for many graduate courses are also available at the
bookstore located on the South Charleston campus of the Marshall
University Graduate College. Books can be acquired there in person
or by telephone at 1-800-642-9842 ext. 2501.
Please Note:
Textbooks are available far in advance of the course start date.
Check the bookstore links for textbook availability.

If a Marshall University Online course is listed in the course
schedule as offering no live meetings, there will be no live
class meeting times.
When you login is up to you, but we advise that you keep in mind
your course due dates and deadlines for assignments and exams in
your course. Since you do all of your course work and discussion
activities at your own pace (again keeping in mind deadlines for
assignments/exams), in a course delivered 100 percent over the
Internet, and with no live meetings, you have a lot of flexibility
as to "when" you actually do your work.

The requirements vary from course to course, but many courses do
require exams. Some courses may require that you obtain a proctor
for exams, but this will be fully explained to you by the course
instructor.

Online classes are offered Fall, Spring and Summer each school year.
Please note that registration for an upcoming semester begins
far in advance of that semester. Online classes generally
fill up quickly, so it is best to be aware of when you
can register. Please check the Registration Timetable on the
MUOnline homepage.

The University Academic Calendar lists specific semester deadline
dates for course drops.
Final Drop Date: Tenth Friday in a Regular Term
Online Course Withdrawal Period: The withdrawal policy for
online courses parallels that for regular courses. A student can
withdraw from an individual online course through 2/3rds of the
official course length. After that time, only a complete
withdrawal from the university is allowed. The refund policy for
online courses also parallels that of regular courses.
Dropping an Online Course: Students can drop an online course
by mailing a request to drop to the Marshall University Office of
the Registrar. The postmark on the request will be the official date
of withdrawal. The instructor’s signature is not required. If a
student is on academic probation, he/she must have the approval
signature of his/her associate dean.

A student dropping an online course or courses, or withdrawing from
the university during the Withdrawal period (which lasts until the
tenth Friday after the first class day of the regular semester),
will receive a grade of W.
For eight week courses, summer sessions and other courses of varying
lengths, the withdrawal period ends the Friday immediately following
the two thirds point in the course.
Exact withdrawal dates are published in the Schedule of Courses
and in the annual
University Academic Calendar.
The W grade (withdrew) has no impact on a student’s Grade Point
Average.
Please note that students who drop courses improperly or who
do not follow the regulations described here, receive a grade of F
at the end of the semester or term.

tools include email, chat, electronic bulletin board, grading,

Most Marshall University Online courses parallel the semester
schedule for traditional courses. Some courses may differ from
traditional semester courses in the start and end dates.
The course syllabus for each individual class and the
Marshall University Official Schedule of Courses will indicate
the beginning and ending date. If the instructor specifies a
deadline that goes beyond the end of the traditional semester,
that deadline will not exceed one year from the start of the
course.
Students enrolled in courses with end dates that go beyond the
regular semester will receive a grade of "I" (Incomplete) at the end
of the regular semester. When the end date of the course is reached,
the "I" will be replaced by the grade the student earned for the
course. Hours of enrollment are reflected in the actual term in
which the student is registered. For all verification purposes,
hours of enrollment are counted only in the term in which the
student is registered.

has automatically been created for you. You can email the instructor
and anyone else in the class, but cannot email outside of the class.

Yes. Marshall University Online
students can access online databases, web-based digital
collections, and other library resources from anywhere, both on
and off-campus, by using their MUID number. The libraries’
online catalog,
MILES, and
more than 90 web-based databases that are purchased each
year to provide citation-level searching and full-text retrieval
of articles, are accessible from the
Library web site.
If the
Marshall University Libraries do not own a specific book or
article, students and faculty can request them through the
web-based
Information Delivery Service (IDS), which is available 24
hours a day. Most articles are delivered electronically without
charge. There is a per-page copying charge for articles that
must be delivered as photocopies. Books from other libraries are
usually delivered without any fee except in cases where the user
elects to mail back the book and must pay mailing costs.
Students who are completely
off-campus should check out
Off-Campus Library Services.

Students enrolled in Marshall University Online courses are eligible
to apply for financial aid in the same way as students enrolled in
traditional classes. The

necessary information. Please note that non-degree students are
not eligible for financial aid.

Payment deadlines for tuition and fees for each semester are posted
on the Office of the Bursar website. In most cases you can expect
to receive a billing statement from the university, but it is
university policy that if a student fails to receive a billing
statement the student is still responsible for meeting the payment
deadline. If that deadline is not met, the course registration will
be cancelled.
