This degree program is designed for certified teachers who are seeking an advanced degree in education. It does not lead to initial licensure as a teacher. This general education program offers the opportunity to explore a range of topics, such as curriculum, instruction, assessment, research, technology, special needs, and more. Admission Requirements:

Admission requirements to the elementary or secondary MA programs are:

• An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5

• A test score from either the Miller Analogies Test (scaled score of 380 or higher) or Graduate Record Exam (combined score of 800 on verbal and quantitative sections).

• A completed application form

• Official transcripts from previously attended colleges

Q. Does this degree lead to certification as a teacher?
A. No. This degree program is designed for certified teachers who are seeking an advanced degree in education. It does not lead to initial licensure as a teacher. Those interested in gaining initial licensure as a teacher should consider either the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or Post Baccalaureate Program.

Q. How long does it take to complete the program?
A. A lot depends on how many courses you want to take per term. Most of our students are employed full time and choose to complete 2 courses per semester, occasionally taking 3 courses during a summer term. The full program is 39 hours, 13 courses. At present, we are offering 8 or 9 of the 13 required courses each semester.

Q. How long does a course last and when do classes begin and end each semester?
A. The duration for a course varies slightly by semester. Fall and Spring terms are 15 weeks and our Summer term lasts 12 weeks. We follow the same academic calendar for our online and face to face programs.

Q. How much is out of state tuition?
A. Tuition for online courses is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. Select the link for online courses on the Bursar's Office Tuition and Fees page for details.

Q. Do I need special hardware/software to participate in the online program?
A. Review the Computer Requirements for a browser check and hardware/software requirements.
