Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree (RBA)

The Marshall University Regents BA (RBA) program is designed specifically for adults and is especially suited to those who have earned college credit but whose work or other responsibilities have prevented them from completing a degree.

Admission is open only to those who graduated from high school at least four years ago.

This is a flexible degree which has no major or minor. Students receive assistance in tailoring a program based on individual goals and needs.

College Equivalent Credits (CECs) may be awarded for certain kinds of work or learning experiences, certificates, and licenses. Only those experiences which have resulted in verifiable college level learning can earn CECs.

All Fs received four or more years before admission to the program are disregarded in computing the grade point average although not actually removed from the permanent records.

Program Requirements

The minimum number of credit hours required is 128.
Of these 128 hours, at least 40 must be upper division (300-400 level).
At least 36 hours must be in General Education.

With careful planning and depending on the number and type of credit hours a student brings to the program, it is possible to earn the RBA degree online. Please note that not every online course is offered every semester.

Associate Degree in Arts in Transfer Studies

A degree in Transfer Studies can establish the foundation for a lifetime of continual learning and serve as the framework for a productive professional and personal life. This degree is for the students who:

  • are planning to earn a baccalaureate degree at a four-year institution,
  • have educational needs not covered by more specific technical programs,
  • cannot easily access the main campus for instruction, or
  • are not ready to declare a major.

The Associate in Arts Degree in Transfer Studies can be an important first step in building educational attainment and the level of training that today’s work place demands. The broader nature of the Associate in Arts Degree in Transfer Studies expands considerably the potential for student critical thinking and conceptual analytic skills applicable to a wide range of employment needs.

A unique feature of the Associate in Arts in Transfer Studies is that the degree may be obtained completely on-line. Through Marshall Community and Technical College courses, MUOnline courses, and Kentucky Community and Technical College System courses offered through the Kentucky Virtual University, the student is not required to come to campus. These courses allow a flexible schedule to fit the students’ busy lifestyle and personal time demands. It also allows the opportunity to obtain a degree for those students who because of transportation problems or other obligations might be unable to do so.

Program Description

The degree requires 45 credit hours of General Education Core courses, which provide students with a broad background in written and oral communication, humanities, social science, sciences/mathematics, and computer competency.

Twenty credit hours of 100 level or higher courses are required to complete the degree.

Public Library Technology Certification

The Marshall Community & Technical College has developed an online Public Library Technology (PLT) certificate program to provide training & skills in public library management and services. The program is a 33-credit hour certificate that you can earn from the comfort of your home or library. These courses can be used for in-service training and para-professional development of current public library employees. The courses can also be used to provide preparatory training for individuals interested in pursing a career in a public library. They can also be used to fulfill elective or minor course requirement for students in several of the 4-year degree programs.

All course materials and correspondence with your professor will be provided online. If you wish to obtain the 33 hour certificate program, it will take two years if you take one library course and one general studies course in six consecutive semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer).
