In an effort to inform the University Community about the public safety issues, the Marshall University Police Department is placing this information on our web page for public viewing.

Alert 1. The Marshall University Police Department has been investigating the recent occurrences of Credit Card theft. These thefts have taken place in the classrooms, residence halls, and offices.

Here are some tips to help prevent the future theft of credit cards.

1. Do not leave your purse, wallet, or book bag unattended at anytime.

2. If you are in an office be sure that the credit card is not in view of others and that it is  out of reach from other people in the office.

3. If in a residence hall, be sure to lock your room door every time you leave the room.

4. If you are in the classroom, do not leave your book bag unattended.

Alert 2.  The Marshall University Police Department have received reports from the MU community of recent thefts from their motor vehicle.

Here are some tips to help prevent you from becoming a victim.

1.  Always make sure your vehicle is secured.  Doors locked and all windows completely rolled up.

2.  Never leave anything of value unconcealed in your vehicle.  Cover items, or secure items in your trunk.

3.  Always park in a well lit area.

4.  Report any suspicious individual(s) looking inside vehicles to the Marshall University Police Department at 696-4357 or make use of our Silent Witness page.
