Secret Creek, WV updated 1.9.05
Or that is what we will refer to it as. We scouted this creek on Saturday January 7th, 2006. Here is the creek profile: Length - 1.6 miles, total drop - 500-600ft (GPS measured), ~300 fpm (one 0.25 mile section around 400fpm). We don't know of anyone running it as of these pictures being posted or even hiking in. There is lots of sweet stuff in there but many trees and rock jumbles to deal with. We are not going to attempt to class the drops until we see or run them with full volume flow. The creek has numerous 10 foot falls, a tributary has a beautiful 15 footer, many bedrock slides, as well as on mega set of slides. One particular sequence goes: three 4 foot drops within 60 feet, then fast slide into a pillow and then more slide, and finally the big one which by the GPS dropped about 50 total feet. There are several pictures of the mega slide. Our main reason for not telling where is this is not to save it to ourselves but there are many questionable things on this creek. Therefore we do not recommend it like your normal creek because running this creek will not be a normal trip but rather an expedition. The hike alone took 4 hours to cover less than two miles. There is also issues of water quality from local mine drainage and other sources. Enjoy the pictures and hopefully we will have more to report soon.
