MUWC Spring 2005 Club Trips and Events Recap
By: Heath Damron
The inaugural semester of MUWC has came to a end. A recap of the events and trips that we took part is necessary to show how far the club has progressed since its birth of the idea of a whitewater club came up between Chris and I one summer night while sitting on my porch drinking beers .

Events
Pool Sessions: There were times when we ran out of room in an Olympic size pool and diving facility for all the boats. The highest count by Lifeguard Mike was ~30 boats with people in them in the water. Many people not only learned to roll but learned to roll as many ways as possible.
The search for gear: We were able to find gear for almost everyone. We helped in the purchases and selling of many boats, paddles, etc. Marshall University SGA funds allowed for the purchase of a TomKat II tandem inflatable kayak. People also donated gear and boats. MUWC has multiple kayaks in our possession for use by our members. Sara and I drove to DC area to pick up two boats that were donated to the club for a super nice guy. He donated a nice Wavesport Y and a Dagger Super Ego. Other people loaned us boats for the pool which was really helpful.
Boat Demo Night: In March Bernie Farley of Whitewater Warehouse brought down 18 of the newest demos from all the manufacturers. I personally really enjoyed the chance to through around all the new models. The Demo was a lot of fun a we plan to have another next year.
