Scholarly and Creative Activities
  • Assisted in the development of the Program Improvement Review process for reviewing public school science and mathematics programs. This project was a collaborative effort among the West Virginia Department of Education, Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative, Regional Educational Service Agency, II, and Marshall University. The process involves observing in classrooms, conducting interviews with major stakeholders (principals, teachers, parents, and students), writing a comprehensive report including recommendations for improving science and mathematics curriculum, instruction, organization, and assessment.

  • A study to evaluate the impact of implementing a total community involvement program into the educational process of a K-12 curriculum. (Lincoln, Wayne & Cabell Counties).

  • A study to determine the effects of opportunity and community on early adolescent pregnancy in Appalachia (collaboration with Dr. Robert Bickel, “Opportunity, Community, and Early Adolescent Pregnancy in an Appalachian State” submitted to Adolescence)

  • A study to determine the effects of Head Start programs in West Virginia (collaboration with Dr. Robert Bickel, “Achievement, Social Skills, and Health: The Absence of Head Start Effects in a West Virginia Sample” submitted to Educational Foundations)

  • Co-Author; A study to determine impact of “No Child Left Behind Program on Appalachian Poor School Districts,” Journal of Appalachian Studies.
