White Taylor
BIOGRAPHY

small town in West Virginia. Reared in a large Christian
family typical of her region and times, Taylor was
immersed in traditional values which she would rely on
throughout her life of dedication to her community. From
her church, Taylor gained valuable experiences and a love
of recreation, which motivated her life-long devotion to
enriching the lives of children. Furthering education was
important to Taylor and she took advantage of every
opportunity to increase her knowledge and abilities. In
addition to graduating from Bluefield State
College, Taylor enrolled in summer courses at the
University of Michigan
and later attended classes at Marshall University.
While her teaching career is significant, the majority of

life for African Americans through her involvement with
the Scott Community Center.

efforts of Maudella Taylor were tirelessly given to
sustaining her race and to providing hope and a future.
