Parking Permit Information
COMMUTER STUDENTS AND VISITORS
------- TEMPORARY PARKING PERMITS ARE AVAILABLE -------
The temporary permits are sold in the Parking Enforcement Office located in the Office of Public Safety on the corner of 18th Street and 5th Avenue. The permits are sold for $2.00 p/day, $10.00 p/week or $40.00 p/month. The office hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Parking regulations are enforced throughout the entire calendar year and are not directly associated with the class schedule. Parking citations are issued Monday thru Thursday, 7AM to 7PM, Friday 7AM to 4PM. All other violations are enforced 24/7 by the Marshall University Police Department.

If you are trying to register for
Summer Semester 2008 and have a hold for parking citations, please

AUTHORIZATION FOR PARKING REGULATIONS
Parking Regulations are issued by the
Office of Public Safety, Parking Enforcement Office. If you have any
questions about your parking permit or the parking regulations please
stop by our office or call the office during the regular business hours
of Monday - Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM at (304) 696-6684 or (304) 696-6406.
RENEW EXISTING PERMIT
If you are an existing permit holder,
DO NOT throw away your current parking permit. There is a $5.00 parking
permit replacement fee. Parking permit sales are limited. Current permit
holders may renew their existing parking permits after June 16, 2008 for
the Fall Semester.
EMPLOYEE SURFACE PARKING PERMITS
Employee parking permits are $72.50
for 6 months and $145.00 for the full year. An employee surface parking
permit will allow you to park in any designated M.U. Employee or General
parking area on campus. The availability of spaces in assigned areas is
not guaranteed. If an assigned area is full, an employee must park in
the next employee assigned lot or any General university parking area.
Employees are not permitted to park in another assigned staff or student
area if their assigned area is full.
STUDENT SURFACE PARKING PERMITS
Surface parking permits are $72.50
for 6 months and $145.00 for the full year. A student surface-parking
permit will allow you to park in any designated M.U. Student or General
permit parking area on campus. Spaces in these areas are available to
students on a first-come-first-serve basis only. The availability of
space is not guaranteed. Students are not permitted to park in
faculty/staff area if their assigned area is full.
3RD AVENUE GARAGE PARKING PERMITS
Parking permits for the Third Avenue
Parking Garage are available. Garage permits are $122.50 for 6 months
and $245.00 per year. Garage parking permits are valid only in the Third
Avenue Parking Garage. Garage spaces are available on a
first-come-first-serve basis only. The availability of spaces is not
guaranteed.
EVENING PARKING PERMITS
Evening permits are valid only after
4:00 PM at $42.50 for 6 months or $85.00 per year. Evening permits are
valid in any M.U. permit parking area regardless of designation after
4:00 PM.
HOME FOOTBAL GAME PARKING
MU parking permits are not valid in
the parking lots adjacent to MU Football Stadium on home football game
days. All permit holders must remove their vehicles from the west
stadium lots the morning/evening before game day. The Athletic
Department will tow all vehicles remaining in these areas at the owner’s
expense. Vehicles may be relocated to the Student parking lots between
18th Street and 19th Street on 6th Avenue.
WEEK GAME DAY PARKING
It is the policy of the Marshall
University Office of Public Safety that during week game days, the
Athletic Department does not charge any valid MU permit holder to park
on the open surface lots or in the Third Avenue Parking Garage because
of the evening class sessions. There is no parking allowed on Stadium
lots during week game days or week-end game days.
HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS
Vehicles parked in any designated
handicapped space on campus must display a valid MU parking permit in
addition to a state issued handicapped parking placard or license plate.
Permit holders must also obtain a MU handicapped-parking decal to affix
to their MU parking permit. To apply for the handicapped decal you must
attach a copy of your state issued handicapped registration card. The
name on the registration card must correspond with the name on the
application before the MU handicapped decal will be issued. Permits are
valid in any designated handicapped parking space on campus.
RETURNS/REFUNDS
If you have a parking permit and are
leaving the University the parking permit must be returned to the
Parking Enforcement Office. The Office of Public Safety, Parking
Enforcement Office refunds permits for individuals leaving the
University on a pro-rated basis that is set by the Office of the Bursar.
All permits must be returned at the time refunds are issued.
LOST / STOLEN PERMITS
A replacement permit can be obtained
at the Parking Enforcement Office for a fee of $5.00. A lost/stolen form
will be fill-out and filed. Any vehicle displaying the lost/stolen
permit will be towed at the owner’s expense. If you find your lost or
stolen permit and you have received your replacement permit, please
return the original permit to the Parking Enforcement Office.
PARKING ENFORCEMENT
Permit parking is enforced on campus
from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Thursday and 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
on Friday. All other violations are enforced 24 hours a day/ 7 days a
week. After 4:00 PM student parking permits are valid in all M.U. permit
parking areas regardless of designation. Please familiarize yourself
with the regulations and parking area locations before the first day of
class. You must notify the Parking Enforcement Office of any changes in
the registration of your vehicle.
Parking permits are not transferable. DO NOT SHARE YOUR PARKING PERMIT
WITH ANYONE. The person registering a vehicle is responsible for all
citations issued to that vehicle and/or any other vehicle displaying
their parking permit. Three or more unpaid parking citations will result
in a financial hold being placed on a student’s record. After 10 or more
unpaid citations have accumulated, the vehicle may be towed at the
owner’s expense. Vehicles displaying an altered or forged MU parking
permit are impounded immediately and criminal charges may be pursued.
Financial holds will not be removed until all outstanding fines are
paid.

• “A” parking area is exclusively for Employees
• “B” parking area is exclusively for Employees
• “C” parking area is exclusively for Handicapped parking spaces
• “D” parking area exclusively for Handicapped parking spaces and a few
employee parking spaces
• “E” parking area exclusively for employee parking
• “S” parking areas are specified for student parking
• “G” parking area is specified for third avenue parking garage facility
only
• “General parking” areas are specified for all who have been issued
Marshall University parking permits
• “Visitor” parking areas are metered parking or purchase a temporary
parking permit
VEHICLE INFORMATION UPDATE
If you need to make changes to your vehicle application, such as,
addition of new vehicle or removal of an old vehicle, with the Parking
Office please send an email to parking@marshall.edu with the following
