Alumni Weekend 2001 kicks off today by honoring the achievements
past graduates have made in the community, on campus and in their
professional lives.
"We are honored to have our alumni return to their alma mater for
a weekend of fun and festivities," Jeff Porter, president of alumni
relations, said.
"Our alumni have always played a major role in the development
of Marshall University and as we 'build toward a national prominence,'
[the theme for the weekend] we would like to embrace and thank those
alumni."
Events for today include a complimentary reception from 8:30 -
10 a.m. and a seminar on the making of "Ashes to Glory" from 10
- 11:30 a.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center, a luncheon honoring
the classes of 1941 and 1951 in the Shawkey Room from noon-1:30
p.m. and a seminar by John F. Hussell, member of the first class
of Yeager Scholors in the Memorial Student Center, a press conference
at 4:30 and a champagne reception honoring past Distinguished Alumni
Award winners at 6:30 p.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center.
"This will be an event-filled weekend with something for everyone
and we are really looking forward to it," Porter said.
