Auditions are this week for "Keely and Du," directed by the actress who played Caro-line Ingalls on "Little House on the Prairie," Karen Grassle. Auditions are Wed., Sept. 10 and Thurs., Sept. 11 for any interested Marshall student or staff member.

Many believe auditions are open only to theatre majors. Dr. Jeffrey S. Elwell, chairman of the Department of Theatre, dispelled this myth by noting, "Auditions for this and all productions are open to all students and staff. Many people don't know that."

"Keely and Du," written by Jane Martin, focuses on the abortion controversy. A young rape victim (Keely) finds herself pregnant and seeks an abortion. On her way to the clinic, she is kidnapped by a pro-life organization.

The play follows the young woman and her involvement with Du, an older woman in the pro-life organization. Dr. Elwell feels the play presents an even discussion of the abortion issue, presenting both sides fairly.

"Keely and Du" contains intense drama, involving adult language and situations.

"Keely and Du" runs Nov. 5-8 at the Experimental The-atre in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center. Performances are at 8 p.m. and are open to the public.

Tickets for "Keely and Du" and all other regular season productions are free to Marshall retirees and full-time students. Tickets are $6 for faculty and staff. For additional information on auditions, call Dr. Elwell at 696-2546. For ticket information, call the box office at 696-2787.

Grassle played Caroline Ingalls, Laura's mother, on the television series from 1974-1983.

"Keely and Du", a controversial play about abortion, is quite a switch from "Little House", but Karen Grassle brings extensive theatre experience to the production.

She appeared in three Broadway plays, and performed at the New York Shakespeare Festival. She was also in the movie "Wyatt Earp" with Kevin Costner. Grassle now lives in Louis-ville, Ky., with her 13 year old daughter.
