Students may now receive a bachelor’s degree from Marshall without stepping a foot on campus. The Lewis College of Business now offers a business science and technology degree through the Internet. The LCOB developed the degree at the request of the University System of West Virginia Board of Trustees. Dr. Don Holdren, professor of finance, is the first e-course instructor in the LCOB. "I coordinated the program for the College of Business," Holdren said. "It just stemmed from my brainchild just over two and a half years ago. We sold it to the dean, and got some grant money." According to the LCOB proposal approved by Faculty Senate and President J. Wade Gilley, the major requires 48 credit hours, including classes in management information science, marketing, management, and finance courses. Not all required courses are offered every semester. Holdren said the classes are arranged so a student can complete the major in two years. A common misconception, Holdren said, is that the student’s degree will
be "marked" so other schools and prospective employers will know the nature
of the courses.
