a flick not hard around Marshall
by KRISTA CRAWFORD
Not far from campus, between ninth and 12th streets, three marquee’s light up Fourth Avenue in downtown Huntington. Marilyn Allen, ad director for the theaters, said that Huntington is one of the few towns left with a downtown theater scene. All three theaters, the Keith- Albee, Camelot and Cinema, have been in the Hyman family since the 1930s. The Keith-Albee, which was built in 1927, is known for its history and beauty Allen said. "I remember years ago when Dustin Hoffman came to premier the movie ‘Rain Man’," Allen said, "he missed the first hour of his movie because he was more interested in touring the theater." She added there are not many movie theaters like the Keith-Albee which has four theaters, the main theater having 1800 seats. The Camelot, which has two theaters, the Cinema, which has 4 theaters, and the Keith Albee bring some of the hottest movies to the downtown. Ticket prices are $6 after 6 p.m. and $4 for matinees, which are any showings before 6 p.m. During the fall and spring semesters Marshall Artists Series rent the Keith Albee for various performances. "The schedule for the Marshall Artist Series events has not been finalized," Allen said. She said the best way to find out what the Marshall Artist Series is planning for the following year is to contact them at the beginning of the fall semester. "By then they should have a finalized schedule," Allen said. A single hot-line number, 525-4440, will give a listing of all the movies and times for all three theaters. More Info The Keith-Albee Theatre is located at 925 4th Ave.
