Host families needed for Japanese exchange students

The Center for International Affairs is looking for families to host students from Japan for one weekend in March.

Thirteen students from Tamagawa University in Tokyo will visit Marshall March 5-24, said Clark Egnor, director of the Learning English for Academic Purposes Program.

The center is looking for families who will host the Japanese students from March 10-12.

"They are wanting to experience the ordinary life style of an American family," Egnor said. "This is an excellent opportunity for opportunity for families with middle school and high school children who are interested in providing their children with multicultural experience."

Japanese students begin to learn English when they are 12, Egnor said. The students can read and write English but they are just beginning to speak it.

The group is made up of students in their late teens to early 20s, Egnor said.

The center also is looking for four or five American students to be cultural ambassadors, Egnor said. The ambassadors will give tours and help with the activities for the Japanese students.

Being a cultural ambassador may lead to many great experiences, Egnor said.
