Advertising With The Parthenon The Parthenon is a 6 column wide by 21" deep (broadsheet) newspaper with free distribution to more than 17,000 students, faculty, and staff. The Parthenon prints Tuesday-Friday during the fall and spring semesters, and every Thursday during the summer semester. Code of Advertising Acceptability 1. The Parthenon reserves the right to edit or reject any copy that the student advertising manager or editor-in-chief determines to be in poor taste or judgment. 2. The Parthenon does not accept advertising which, in its judgment, contains attacks of a personal, sexist, racial, or religious nature, or which reflects unfavorably on competitive organizations, institutions, or merchandise. 3. The Parthenon does not accept advertising which, in its judgment, might destroy the confidence of readers or advertisers. This includes advertising which is misleading, deceptive, or which grossly exaggerates or makes unwarranted claims. 4. Political advertising is to be paid in advance and must identify the sponsor in the ad. 5. The Parthenon does not accept advertising which evades or attempts to encourage the evasion or violations of any law, regulation or ordinance -- municipal, state, or federal. 6. Advertising will not be accepted from any advertiser whose account is 60 or more days past due or who has an unpaid balance of $200 or more. 7. Advertisers who are 60 or more days past due on their bill are subject to investigation by the West Virginia State Attorney General's office. 8. One proof will be provided free at the request of the advertiser. 9. Advertising placed directly by an advertiser outside the publisher's 60-mile trade area radius will be classified as a national advertiser. Advertising placed by an advertising agency or a representative of an advertiser will be classified as commissionable by the agency unless the advertiser's product and/or service is unduplicated outside the trade area. 10. The Parthenon is not liable for poor reproduction by our printer. 11. The liability of the publisher for failure to publish an ad for any reason in the issue specified is limited to publishing the ad in a subsequent issue at a regular rate. 12. The advertiser agrees to defend and reimburse The Parthenon against any and all liability, loss or expense resulting from publication of the ad. 13. The Parthenon reserves the right to insert above any copy the word 'Advertisement' and to border any advertisement. 14. The Parthenon is not liable for slight changes or typographical errors which do not lessen the value of an ad. Liability for errors shall not exceed the cost of space occupied by the advertisement. 15. The Parthenon is not responsible for any material or artwork left in its possession after 30 days unless return delivery instructions are received and verified within 30 days of use. 16. Advertising is subject to prior inquiry concerning the intent of the advertising. 17. Beer, wine and liquor ads are accepted in accordance with West Virginia state law. 18. The Parthenon reserves the right to change its ad rates and conditions set forth in these policies at any time on 30 days' notice. The advertiser may adjust or cancel his contract or space as of the date a new policy or rate takes effect. |
