Sorority starts quest to name 'Greek Gods'

Today is the last day Phi Mu sorority will give students a chance to vote for the 'Greek Gods' on campus.

Since Tuesday, Phi Mu members have been sitting at a table in the Memorial Student Center lobby collecting change as votes for the different fraternities. Today, students can cast their votes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nickels and dimes represent good votes, while quarters will be taken as negative votes. At the end of the week the change collected for each fraternity will be counted and an answer to "Who are the Greek Gods on campus?" will be announced.

"This project is part of a greater goal to participate in eight community service projects this semester," Stephanie Bennet, president of Phi Mu, said. "We are trying to involve the whole Greek system in philantrophy."

Money raised from the project will go toward a bumper sticker program that will put bumper stickers on police cars in Huntington, including Marshall University Police Department cars. The bumper stickers will have "There is no excuse for domestic violence," printed on them. The goal for the project is $168, which is needed for the bumper sticker program.

Phi Mu has other projects planned as well. On April 1, they will host a male beauty pageant called "Mr University Pageant."

The pageant will be in Marco's at the student center. Anyone is welcome to attend and Phi Mu has asked the president of each Panhellenic sorority on campus to volunteer as judges.

Although the competition is open to everyone, Phi Mu is hoping to get at least two men from each fraternity to participate.

The entry fee per person in the pageant is $10, and $2 will be charged at the door. First prize is $100, while second place will receive $50.

A portion of the proceeds from the pageant will benefit Children's Miracle Network, which is Phi Mu's national philantrophy.
