Marshall's men's soccer ready for spring season

by JAY M. MORLACHETTA reporter

Marshall's men's soccer team began its spring season this week.

That means it's time for players to to begin concentrating on skills and readying themselves for competition.

"We'll be coming up against some tough competition this spring season, but I think our team will be ready," said Taly Goode, a senior history major and starting goalkeeper for the Thundering Herd.

Goode said the spring is a time to accomplish many things.

"This season is a lot of fun, but we have many things to work out because we still want to win every game," Goode said. "Tthis season gives us time to try out some different line-ups.

"A lot of people get moved around in the line-up and we get a good chance to see what works best. At the end of last season we were a little disappointed, but most of our team is coming back and we are ready to start playing."

Assistant coach Marty Marti-nez said an attitude has carried over from fall to spring.

"I saw a change in the team's attitude at the end of last season because they were tired of losing," Martinez said, "and that attitude has not gone away."

Martinez said most of the players from the fall return in the spring. They are focused and eager to start the season, he said.

"Each week I see a different player step up and show me what they can do as a player," Martinez said.

As recruiting nears its end, Marshall is looking to sign only a few newcomers, he said.

"We are really relying on the nucleus of players we have coming back to be successful," Martinez said.

Marshall has three home dates in the spring two games April 1, one April 9 and two April 22.
