Movie, pool tournament part of Thursday Night

Thursday Night Live gave Greeks the chance to participate in activities outside of the stereotypical fraternity or sorority party.

"Greeks get a bad image," Scott Jacobs, IFC president, said. "The idea is to have a night to come together and chill out without alcohol."

An Alpha Sigma Phi member liked having a place to go other than a party.

"This is a good idea," J.D. Wooddell, a junior marketing major from Teays Valley, said. "It helps breakdown the stereotype and shows we aren't just about getting drunk."

One sorority member said that it was nice to show how her sisters socialize outside of the typical clichˇ of Greek parties.

"This goes to show the rest of campus that Greeks aren't just all about the party," Jessica Adams, Alpha Chi Omega public relations chairman, said.

Thursday Night Live was sponsored by the Interfraternity Council and the Pan Hellenic Council. The two groups spent more than $1,200, according to Andy Hermansdorfer, director of student activities, on events including a showing of American Pie 2, a pool tournament, a concert with the band 69 Fingers, and food and refreshments for everyone.

"There were enough activities to entertain everyone," Destiny Day, a freshman from Lavalette, said.

American Pie 2, shown in Marco's, was a popular choice amongst the participants.

"I think it's a good idea when they put it on the level of people our age, like with this movie," Drea Rogers, a junior education major from Cincinnati, Ohio, said.

A pool tournament was the competitive attraction of the evening. Nicole Wellman and Jessica Blair from Alpha Xi Delta won the sorority division, while Scott Jacobs and Brent Perry from Pi Kappa Alpha won the fraternity division. The winners each received a $50 gift certificate to the book store for their efforts.
