Twin Towers West residents had a chance to share their ideas of
the perfect man Monday night at the building-wide program, "To
Be or Not to Be ... in Love."
Laura Haynes, a graduate assistant at the Women's Center, led the
discussion on love and relationships.
She began the program by asking the residents what qualities they
demand in a guys they would date.
Intelligence, respect, trust, honesty and common interests were
among those mentioned.
Next, the women shared stories of being in love.
"I think you can share love with many people throughout your
lifetime, but there is only one solemate for you," Sherry Ott,
a sophomore French major from Ticonderoga, N.Y., said.
Haynes prompted residents to share their experiences of "relationships
gone bad."
"I've seen it all. My girlfriends have horror stories,"
Haynes said. "And I've had some personal experience in that
department."
The women received handouts listing tips for avoiding bad or unhealthy
relationships and outlining the warning signs common to abusive
personalities.
According to the handout, partners must communicate clearly, avoid
dangerous situations, be in control and be careful when embarking
on a new relationship.
Also, people displaying jealousy, controlling behaviors, quick
involvement, unfair expectations or isolation may not be the best
type of person to become involved with.
