Alpha Chi Omega fills Samaritan's Purseby BRANDON WYMER Alpha Chi Omega is getting into the spirit of the holiday season by preparing charity shoe boxes for SamaritanŐs Purse, a nonprofit Christian relief organization. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped people around the world who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine, according to the Web site, www.samaritans-purse.org. This week is National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, their annual Christmas charity drive. "Samaritan's Purse is a great way to directly impact some child's life and make their Christmas a little brighter," Sarah Surber, a senior political science major, said. Each Alpha Chi Omega member will bring one shoe box of for the children, Jessica Adams, Alpha Chi Omega public relations chairwoman, said. Their goal is to make sixty boxes. "In my boxes, I put things like a toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, gloves, Band-Aids, and fun toys just to make them smile," Adams, a junior broadcast journalism major from Huntington, said. Some girls put their picture and a short note to the children hoping they will respond, Adams said. "I have done the Samaritan's Purse for eight years now and love to do it. The kids really need these things," Sarah Benda, a senior criminal justice major, said. |
