Talent show finalists to compete tonightby AMY M. LYNCH The finalists for the Student Activities Programming Board talent show are scheduled to compete at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Marco's for a $250 first, $150 second and $75 third prizes, Kristen McConaha, SAPB president, said. Four duos and a one-man show will compete for the prizes. Among the competitors are Ella and Nina Copley. The sisters are natives of Dingess. They began singing together in church. "The talent show gives us a chance to practice so we don't get embarrassed in front of a crowd," Nina Copley, a sophomore nuclear medicine major, said. The sisters have performed at weddings and are now working on going to Nashville this summer. Also competing is Mason Rick-mers who is scheduled to perform his magic act. From Milford, Mich., he has been working on his magic act for five years. "The talent show is a way to get myself noticed, it is very rare to get noticed as a magician," Rickmers, sophomore education major, said. The SAPB sponsors the talent show every year in the spring and fall semesters. McConaha said, "It is an opportunity for all students to be heard. Instead of listening to other talents, we can listen to our own." The SAPB had auditions for the talent show Sept. 11. Three other acts will be performing in the show, but their information was unavailable. |
