Smokers could face stricter regulations

by AMANDA JORDAN
reporter

Smoking in campus building entrance ways may be snuffed out after a Faculty Senate meeting scheduled for Monday.

The Executive Committee will meet at noon in the Memorial Student Center to discuss a recommendation that the university implement a ban on smoking in certain campus areas.

Areas to be examined will be around Corbly Hall, including the front and back entrances under the building overhangs, and in and around Smith Hall and Smith Music Hall.

Also on the agenda is a recommendation for the Faculty Senate continue to support a bill which will authorize the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to change employer's contributions to the TIAA-CREF retirement funds from 6 percent to 7.5 percent and reduce employee contributions from 6 percent to 4.5 percent.

The Executive Committee will discuss a recommendation to support legislation that will reinstate voting by State Representatives of the Advisory Council of Faculty, Classified Employees and students.

The recommendation for the approval of several courses in the College of Education and Human Services and the Lewis College of Business is also slated to be discussed.
