Holiday cheer finds home in capital cityby BRANDON WYMER The holiday season is coming alive at Sunrise Museum in Charleston as it presents Christmas at Sunrise 2001: Making Spirits Bright until Dec. 30. "This is the biggest Christmas display Sunrise has ever had with over 40 West Virginia artists represented in the show," Lewis Ferguson, community relations manager, said. The museum has a variety of Christmas trees and wreaths created by the area's finest artists and designers for families to enjoy, according to a press release. "The exhibit has something to appeal to every taste from the very traditional trees to very unusual and nontraditional trees," Ferguson said. The Sunrise Museum is also showcasing a display of gingerbread houses this year. "We have a delicious gingerbread village done by local chefs and designers," Ferguson said. Art activities, theater productions and planetarium presentations about the origins of many holiday traditions and the constellations of the winter skies are included in the assortment of events planned by the museum. "We have many holiday programs as well as the tree display," Ferguson said. The Theatre in the Galleries will perform the new, original production of "Attention Christmas Shoppers!" which tells the tale of a de-partment store mannequin in search of the true meaning of the holiday spirit, according to a press release. "It's a great display and lots of opportunities for families to come up and enjoy the program together," Ferguson said. |
