Tri-Sigs encourage donations for needyby BRANDON WYMER Members of the social sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma are getting into the charitable spirit for the holiday season. The Tri-Sigs are sponsoring a book and clothing drive and will be ringing the bells for the Salvation Army at the Fifth Avenue Big Bear on Dec. 6. The book drive will benefit Barnett Child Care Center. Tri-Sig members are taking donations and gathering old books until Dec. 7, Sarah Smith, Tri-Sig social service chairwoman, said. "It's important, especially this time of year, to give back. That's what we're trying to do with the book drive and the other activities," Emily Kelly, a junior acting/directing major from East Liverpool, Ohio, said. Sarah Smith, a sophomore art education major from Baltimore, Md., said the Tri-Sigs are also gathering clothes to donate to BRANCHES, a domestic violence shelter in Huntington. "BRANCHES has to buy clothes for Christmas and we thought it was a good idea to help them out," she said. Kelly said Tri-Sig members are gathering a lot of goods to donate, but they would appreciate any help. "We encourage anyone on campus to donate and help out," Molly Haught, a senior Tri-Sig member from Glen Dale, said. The Tri-Sigs will be accepting donations at their sorority house until Dec. 7. |
