Parthenon picks spring editorsby MATTIE HENRY The editor and the managing editor of The Parthenon were selected Monday. Jeff Pullin was chosen as the editor and Michael Adams was chosen as the managing editor. Both are senior print journalism majors from Point Pleasant. Dr. Harold C. Shaver, dean of the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and print journalism faculty members Dr. Ralph J. Turner, Marilyn McClure and Lynne Austin chose the editors. McClure, faculty adviser for The Parthenon, said the editors were selected based on criteria in The Parthenon Handbook. The handbook outlines courses the editors need to have taken such as law, ethics, and layout and design classes, McClure said. This semester, Pullin has worked for The Parthenon as wire editor. "I have a lot of new ideas for the next semester, like allowing the students to have more of a voice," Pullin said. Adams worked for the Parthenon as sports editor for the Summer 2000 and Spring 2001 terms. He has also worked as a freelance writer covering Marshall sports for The Beckley Register-Herald and as a news reporter for The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington. Adams plans to have a local news page and a Life! page with a theme every day, according to his Parthenon staff application. Next week, Pullin and Adams will choose people to fill the six remaining editor positions. |
