Letter to the editor

Parents of fallen son say 'Thank you'

Sharon and I would like to thank the Marshall University community, students, staff, faculty and administration, for all of your acts of kindness to us during this tragic period in our lives and the life of the country. For all the cards, flowers, donations to the scholarship fund and words of encouragement, we are grateful. We especially appreciate the help given by President Angel, Dr. Keith Spears, the Theater Department, the Marriott, the Music Department, Motion Masters, ITV and the staff who were so very helpful in the Memorial Service on Sept. 23, 2001. It was a glimpse into the life of our son, Paul Wesley Ambrose. We also thank those who attended the funeral service Nov. 24, 2001.

I would also like to thank the Sociology/Anthropology Department for picking up the responsibilities for my classes and the administrative responsibilities during this time. You did a wonderful job. Especially I would like to thank Judy Russell for her help from taking charge of my daily responsibilities to listening and providing me much needed encouragement during this time.

To all of the students in my classes who have been very patient with me during this time when tests, papers, and assignments were not returned in a timely way, I am very appreciative. You have also been very helpful with your cards and expressions of sympathy.

Our lives have been enriched by Paul's contributions to our family, school, state and nation. We hope that his memory will live on in each of you who knew him personally and those who have recently become aware of him and his accomplishments. We also hope the scholarship will provide students with experiences that will enable them to see the preventive side of medicine and how public health service can help our country.

Again, thank you to each of you for you help and support to Sharon and me.
