Elaine Cruse, Pharm. D.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Elaine Cruse received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University (WVU) in 1999 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the WVU School of Pharmacy in 2003. After graduation, she moved to Kingston, TN where she completed a residency in Community Pharmacy Practice from the University of Tennessee. In 2008, she received her credential as a certified diabetes educator. From 2004 to 2013, Dr. Cruse was employed with Food City Pharmacy in Tennessee where she was a provider in their employee wellness program as well as a staff pharmacist. In addition to her traditional role as a community pharmacist, she provided diabetes self-management education and immunization delivery.
Dr. Cruse is a shared faculty member and her practice site is Valley Health Systems in Huntington, WV. There she is part of an interdisciplinary team where she provides clinical services including medication therapy management and diabetes self-management education.
Dr. Cruse holds specialty practice certificates from the American Pharmacists Association. These include Pharmaceutical Care for Patients with Diabetes and Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery. She has provided numerous presentations to health care professionals, school groups, senior centers, and diabetes organizations on a variety of drug-related topics. Dr. Cruse is a member of the American Pharmacists Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
