Dr. Anderson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University in 1991. After earning his B. S., Dr. Anderson enrolled in The Ohio State University’s Doctor of Pharmacy program, receiving his doctoral degree in 1994. In 1996, Dr. Anderson completed a two-year, post-doctoral fellowship in drug information at the Ohio State University.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree, Dr. Anderson gained valuable professional pharmacy experience serving as a pharmacist at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Dr. Anderson then returned to The Ohio State University in 1992 to pursue his doctorial studies. While at The Ohio State University, Dr. Anderson practiced at The Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, OH and served as a consultant for the Geriatric Medication Project sponsored by Merck-Medco Containment Services.
Dr. Anderson was a founding faculty member of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he began his academic career in 1996 as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice. As an Assistant Professor he developed the school’s first residency program and has successfully trained five residents. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002 and trained the school’s first post-doctoral fellow in drug information. Dr. Anderson served as interim Associate Dean of Curriculum from 2005-2006, and in 2006 was named the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, a position he has held to the present.
In addition to his teaching, mentoring, and administrative roles at Texas Tech Dr. Anderson has also held several practice positions. These positions include clinical pharmacist with Northwest Texas Healthsystems, clinical pharmacist with Texas Tech University HSC Managed Care, Director of the Drug Information Residency Program , and Director of the Drug Information and Health Policy Development Center .
Dr. Anderson has received many honors including the Lourdes M. Cueller Award from the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (2004), the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Collaborative Practice Award (2002), and the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation Research Award (1998).
Dr. Anderson is an active participant in professional service and promotion of his profession. His professional service with the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists has included terms as the Chair of the Membership Development Council, Vice Chair of the Organizational Affairs Council, and Chair of the Political Action Committee. Additional professional service commitments have included terms as President of the Panhandle Society of Health-System Pharmacists and as the class representative for his Pharm. D. class. Dr. Anderson is an active member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the Panhandle Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He has also served on numerous hospital and university committees.
As Associate Dean for Academic and Curricular Affairs, Dr. Anderson oversees academic standards and curriculum development, faculty development, and program development. A member of the Pharmacy Executive Council, he provides leadership for the School’s academic standards committee, coordinates the School’s assessment and curriculum activities, oversees student affairs and advising, and professional development for faculty. Dr. Anderson, is a key participant in the internal and external affairs of the school; overall educational programming; and is a contributor to academic, service, and research partnerships which enhance all aspects of the School of Pharmacy.
