Dr. Anderson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Ohio State University in 1991, during which time she completed a pharmacy internship at Kroger’s. She then went on to complete a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arkansas in 2000 and a one-year ASHP accredited primary care residency at the University of Oklahoma in 2001.
Dr. Anderson began her professional career in 1991 with the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where she served as a staff pharmacist from 1991-1992. From 1992 through 1997 Dr. Anderson held staff pharmacist positions at National Rx in Columbus, Ohio and at Baptist/St. Anthony’s Health System in Amarillo, Texas.
While in Texas, Dr. Anderson began teaching as a founding faculty member of the Texas Tech University HSC School of Pharmacy in 1997, a position she held until 2000. While completing her residency, she was a Clinical Instructor with the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Oklahoma, after which she returned to Texas Tech as a Clinical Pharmacist (2001 – 2003) and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice (2001 – 2007). Additionally, Dr. Anderson was a Pharmacist with the Amarillo Pharmaceutical Care Center division of the University from 2004 – 2007. In 2007, she rejoined the Veteran’s Administration as a Pharmacist with the Amarillo VA Health Care System, a position she held until recently.
Dr. Anderson has written five successful grant applications, resulting in nearly $70,000.00 in funding. She has presented at over 20 local, regional, and national conferences and nine poster presentations, in addition to authoring eight peer-reviewed articles and abstracts.
Dr. Anderson is a recipient of the Amarillo VA Key Success Award (2009), as well as the Collaborative Practice Award (2002) and Research and Education Foundation Research Award (1998) – both presented by the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Throughout her career in pharmacy practice and academia, Dr. Anderson has contributed her time to a variety of committees. A member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Panhandle Society of Health-System Pharmacists; Dr. Anderson has served as the advisor for the Texas Tech Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (2005 – 2007), the Chair of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Public Relations Committee (2004 – 2006), and the Secretary/Treasurer for the Panhandle Society of Health-System Pharmacists (1997 – 1998). Additionally, she was a member of the High Plains Council of the American Diabetes Association from 2003 – 2006.
