100.005 Inclement Weather Policy


This policy establishes the protocol for Inclement Weather at the School of Pharmacy


The Executive Committee shall review this policy bi-annually in the spring semester of odd numbered years.


Whenever official announcements are made by action of the University President (or designee) that classes are delayed or canceled due to inclement weather, educational and experiential experiences for all pharmacy students will be amended accordingly. If, for example, the University issues a two-hour delay, the School of Pharmacy class and rotation schedules will also be delayed; if the University cancels classes, the School of Pharmacy classes will also be canceled. In the event of a 2-hour delay in the start of classes, the School of Pharmacy official start time will be 10:00 AM. Any classes scheduled at 8:00 AM will be cancelled, while classes scheduled at 9:00 AM will be delayed by one hour. Classes with start times of 10:00 AM or later will not be affected.

During times when main campus is not in session (e.g. semester break) and pharmacy school courses are being conducted, the administration of the School of Pharmacy may choose to delay or cancel classes. Delays or cancellations will be communicated via the University’s emergency text notification system.

While it is the policy that every reasonable effort must be made to meet classroom responsibilities, students and faculty will work together to develop a mechanism to make up what was missed.

Administrative and support staff will adhere to the regular MU inclement weather policy.

MUSOP students serving in experiential rotations with pharmacists in the care of patients will be expected to make every effort to meet their responsibilities. However, in the case of inclement weather, clinical students shall not be penalized for adhering to the inclement weather policy announced by the University. Local preceptors shall have the authority to cancel or delay educational and clinical activities for the student(s) due to inclement weather. Students are expected to contact their preceptor and the Office of Experiential Learning for appropriate notification and instruction. If a student feels that they cannot safely drive to their scheduled rotation site, the student should notify their preceptor and the Office of Experiential Learning.
