B.S. with Areas of Emphasis in BioPhysics

  • The Area of Emphasis in BioPhysics is designed for those who are interested in future study in biophysics or biotechnology.
  • As opposed to the basic degree, the courses PHY 302 (Electricity & Magnetism II), PHY 330 (Mechanics) and PHY 443 (Quantum Mechanics II) are not required, as well as 2 hours of advanced elective lab and 4 hours or differential calculus. The upper level science courses required for the AoE can be used to satisfy the physics elective requirements. Completion of an AoE is posted on the student’s transcript.
  • The AoE requires basic science courses which will fulfill the college requirements of eight hours in a second/third science, so that these are not an extra requirement. The upper level science courses required for the AoE can be used to satisfy the physics elective requirements. Completion of an AoE is posted on the student’s transcript.
  • Together with the math requirements, the basic and upper level science courses and the capstone project, you will have to fulfill a total of 58 credit hours specific to your major, plus 13 credit hours of math.
  • In addition to these, you will obtain about 48 credit hours by fulfilling the general university and college requirements.
  • A 2.00 overall GPA and a 2.00 Major GPA is required to graduate.
