About the Clinic

The Marshall University Psychology Clinic was established by the Department of Psychology to serve as a training facility for advanced graduate students enrolled in the clinical psychology program at the university and to provide high quality, low cost, confidential  psychological services to individuals on the campus and from the local community.

The student clinicians are graduate students in the Marshall University Clinical Psychology doctoral (PsyD) program.  Student clinicians provide services under the supervision of qualified clinical faculty selected by the Department of Psychology to fulfill supervisory and teaching functions.

A variety of  services are offered by the Clinic.  These include individual psychotherapy, psychological assessment, group psychotherapy, as well as educational workshops and other events.  Although the Clinic is not a for-profit venture, nominal fees are charged for services.  You may contact us to schedule an appointment at 304-696-2772.  If you need to reach a therapist in the clinic, you may call 304-696-2772 and follow the instructions.

Services

Appointments

Appointments may be made by calling (304-696-2772) and following the instructions or by going to an Administrative Assistant in the Psychology Dept. (Room 335-A, Harris Hall), during hours of operation.  If you are not able to contact someone directly, you can leave a confidential voice mail message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.  If you need to speak with your therapist, call (304) 696-2772 and follow the instructions.  If you are in crisis and need immediate assistance go to the hospital nearest you or call 911.

Except for children, appointments are generally made only for the caller actually on the telephone line.  However, we will be glad to provide any caller with information pertaining to our services and referral options which could be conveyed to someone else.

During the initial phone contact, the Administrative Assistant (in consultation with the clinician, supervisor, and Clinic Director) must obtain enough information from you to determine whether or not treatment available at the Clinic is appropriate for you.  If your situation is appropriate, the Administrative Assistant will schedule the first appointment. If the situation is inappropriate, you will be referred elsewhere. There may be times when there will be more individuals seeking service than there are clinicians available. Potential clients who call the clinic to schedule services during this time will be given the option of being placed on our waiting list or being referred to another agency.

Facilities

The Marshall University Psychology Clinic is located in Room 449, Harris Hall, on the Marshall University campus. One-way mirrors allow direct observation of sessions and both audio and video taping equipment are available for recording sessions as an aid to supervision.  The Clinic is equipped with "panic buttons" in case an emergency should arise in the clinic.

Hours

The Clinic is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The Clinic is closed on holidays and weekends and any other time that the campus is officially closed.  After hours calls will be answered by voice mail and the Clinic Director will obtain any messages as needed.  For an appointment, you may call (304) 696-2772 and follow the instructions.

Fees

Although the Clinic is not a for-profit venture, fees are charged for services and clinicians are expected to collect fees at the time services are rendered.
