There was extensive discussion from the committee regarding the transition timetable for implementation of the new evaluation system and merit salary process. For merit monies that may be available for distribution July 2005, the committee agreed that faculty raises will be based on an 18 month time period (August 2003-December 2004). For merit monies that may be available for distribution July 2006, faculty raises will be based on a 12 month time period (January 2005-December 2005).
There was discussion regarding timelines for first and second year faculty members. First year faculty, the committee agreed to keep the current evaluation date. For second year faculty, the planning page will be due in August.
Next, committee discussion focused on the P&T timelines. “Do we have to include the 5th year review for the P&T decision? Should it be up to the P&T candidate to ask the Chair for early evaluation of the packet? Should the current dates be kept in place?” After examining many possible dates for setting deadlines for the P&T decision, a vote was taken by the committee.
Sottile made a motion for the committee to vote on several points. The motion was seconded by Shao. The motion that was made and approved included the following points.
(1) Only two university imposed dates should be included in the timeline.
a. The Dean will review all applications and recommendations and make his/her recommendations to the VP for Academic Affairs no later than February 15.
b. The President will notify all candidates of his/her decision by March 15.
(2) Each college would set its own set of submission timelines to meet the two university imposed dates
The topic of student evaluation of instruction was briefly discussed.
Dooley agreed to send committee members the list of “major talking points” from previous presentations.
