CRITERIA

GRADUATE COLLEGE FUND FOR REASSIGNED TIME FOR RESEARCH

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1.      Whether the applicant is applying for an external grant; or

2.      Needs to meet a book production deadline; or

3.      Is working on an already funded grant; or

4.      Needs to write recently invited scholarly papers* (and needs to meet a conference or journal deadline); or

5.      The urgency of the research project. (Can taking a good teacher out of the classroom be justified? Can the project wait until summer when the faculty member is eligible to apply for a Summer Research Grant?)

6.      While an assured publication is a strong point in favor of a project, it is not absolutely essential. In some cases, a major project without assured publication may rank higher than an assured publication which requires little further work during a semester.

Collaterally

·        First year faculty who enter Marshall University with a strong research momentum will receive special consideration.

·        The scholarship to be undertaken must relate to the faculty member’s academic discipline/teaching assignments. (A general book about the alumni of University X written by a Zoology professor, for example, would not qualify for reassigned time.)

·        The faculty member’s record of productivity and likelihood of accomplishing his/her goal is considered.

·        The potential scholarly worth of the contribution is considered.

*Book reviews are not eligible.
