"Growing the Pool of Engineers: Experiences in Hand-On Learning at a Summer Engineering Academy", William Pierson, Betsy, Dulin, and Michael Robinson, to be presented at and published in the Proceedings of the 2002 American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference.

Professional/Community Based Service:
I am a member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Committee and Chair of the Electrical Engineering sub-committee. This group creates and reviews the examination taken as the first step in becoming a professionally licensed engineer. Over 30,000 individuals take the FE exam each year. NCEES headquarters is in Clemson, SC, where exam preparation and review takes place in three or four workshops each year.

Other Achievements:
I am a member of the Exploring Engineering: Academy of Excellence planning and steering committee. This group organized, raised funds to support, and conducted the first ever Academy during the summer of 2001. Thirty high school students were invited to attend the one-week Academy, hosted on the MU campus, and explore an engineering career though hands-on activities, field trips, and interaction with practicing engineers. The Academy will be held again during the summer of 2002 and has been expanded to include high school teachers as well as high school students.
