How to Apply for a Federal Direct (Parent) PLUS Loan
1. The student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
2. Parent must complete a Direct PLUS Loan Request by signing into www.studentloans.gov website, clicking on the “Complete PLUS Request Process,” and then clicking on the “Parent PLUS Loan” link.
3. Parent must complete a Federal Direct PLUS Electronic Master Promissory Note (PLUS MPN) by visiting www.studentloans.gov, clicking on the “What you Need for Direct Loans” link, and then clicking on the “Master Promissory Note” link.
The Federal Direct PLUS Electronic Master Promissory Note (PLUS MPN) signed by the parent is valid for 10 years once a PLUS loan is taken out (unless the parent applied and was approved with an endorser); however, a Federal Direct PLUS Loan Request must be made each academic year and each summer award period to be considered.
