Herd4Christ (Religious/ Christian)
Composed of young adult Christians seeking non-denominational, Christ-centered service, Herd4Christ is dedicated to strengthening the faith of our members, building lasting relationships with one another, serving the community, and reaching out to the students of Marshall University. An officially recognized campus organization, we provide a number of activities on and off campus to help us grow closer to God and have fun. Above all, the mission of Herd4Christ is to point young adults to Christ and then help them grow in Him. Many of our members teach both children’s and adult Bible classes, lead in worship, and serve both the congregation and community in many other ways.
We have various activities in a given week. In addition to worshipping with the 26th Street church of Christ on Sundays & Wednesdays, we have an on-campus Bible study every Tuesday night during the semester at the Student Center at 9:15pm. This year’s study will be held in the John Spotts Room. On Thursday, our campus minister & his wife, Chris & Katie Roberts, invite everyone into their home for dinner & a movie. On Friday’s, we have devotionals, which consist of dinner, singing, a lesson & doing something fun together. These are held in various locations, whether it be the 26th Street church building, Ritter Park, someone’s home, etc. It’s always a wonderful time. At least once a month, we have a service project that helps our fellow Christians, the community or those in need & ultimately strengthens our faith & glorifies God. We hope you will take the time to check us out.

Invisible Children at Marshall University (Social Justice)
- Invisible Children is an organization that attempts to help people affected by the 23-year long war in northern Uganda. Joseph Kony leads a rebel group called the Lord’s Resistance Army against the Ugandan government. Since few will join in his cause, he has resorted to going to villages and kidnapping young children in the night. They train them how to become soldiers; how to kill. At one point the LRA was made up of more than 90% children. To keep from being kidnapped, children would travel from all over to the major city in Uganda and sleep there with the government’s army and police protecting them. They would wake up early and make the long trek home the next morning. The LRA and the Ugandan government are now in peace talks, but Kony, the leader of the LRA, will not show up to sign the peace treaty, which means the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement has expired. Children no longer have to night commute, but approximately 1 million people remain displaced in overcrowded camps. Access to clean water, economic opportunities, health centers, and education just isn’t there, and people are afraid to go back to their villages because Kony won’t sign the treaty. Invisible Children has set up many different programs to get the needed money to the Ugandan people so they can live as they once did.
The Marshall University chapter was started in 2007. Our main goal is to inform our peers of the situation in Uganda and to raise money to help the situation. We hold many events throughout the year to collect money to send to the people of Africa, such as benefit concerts featuring local bands, book drives, and events sponsored by the national organization. We also show the Invisible Children documentary different times throughout the year on campus, in dorm rooms, and at local churches. It is our hope that people in our area will come to our events & meetings and learn how they can help.

Kappa Alpha Order (Fraternity) (Greek Life)
Purpose: American social fraternity and fraternal order. 131 National chapters with more than 149,000 initiated active members. Founded Washington College Lexington, VA. Dec. 21, 1865. The members of Kappa Alpha Order pride themselves on a tradition of chivalry and of the values of the gentleman. This is reminiscent of a romanticized version of the Knights of the Crusades. This all culminates into a modern college fraternal experience. A member of Kappa Alpha Order strives to offer reverence to both God and woman, as described in the motto. Further, the idea that “Excellence is our Aim” further emboldens members to always apply themselves to self-improvement, realizing that you should always continue to strive for excellence.

Public Relations Student Society of America (Public Relations)
Mission:
To serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities; to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.

They also traveled to Detroit, MI, and Philiadelphia, PA, for national conferences.

Membership dues are collected in both the fall and spring. The cost is $50 for new members and $55 for returning members.

Students Against Destructive Decisions or SADD for short (Social Justice)
Mission: SADD is a youth organization that promotes teen empowerment and uses peer influence to spread the message of positive decision-making. The SADD organization is comprised of thousands of college, high school, and middle school chapters that embrace a “no use” policy and help educate their peers about potentially destructive decisions regarding underage drinking, impaired driving, other drug use, violence, and suicide.
MISSION
Originally, the mission of the SADD program was to help young people say “no” to drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded.
SADD’s mission, simply stated, is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.
MU SADD’S Extended Mission Edition: Marshall University’s SADD organization is relatively new and had expanded tremendously. We at Marshall SADD do the same thing as SADD does in middle and high schools, just in college. We target all factors of destructive decisions and give students resources to help stop these acts or to prevent them. We as a group do different activities each month and try to make it fun and educational for all college students. Please join us in the fight for safer roads and communities.
