Sean Hornbuckle, Student Body President
Sean is the son of Moses (late) and Patricia Hornbuckle. Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, Sean graduated from Huntington High in 2003 graduating with Very High Honors while also lettering in basketball and football. During the past few years Sean has enjoyed much success at the collegiate level. In addition to being a Marshall University Student Ambassador and Outstanding Black Scholar, Sean was a recipient of many awards and honors including the Bob Barnett Scholarship, Promise Scholarship, National Dean’s List, Keith-Albee Scholarship to name a few while staying active in a host of other clubs and organizations. Among those organizations was Student Government in which he was on the executive staff as the Multicultural Affairs Director, Chief of Staff/Athletic Liaison, and Vice President leading up to this year. Sean’s love for his community and sports has always been evident by working at the A.D. Lewis and Fairfield Community Centers, teaching daycare classes at the YMCA and referring Buddy Basketball while also competing in Intramurals on campus throughout college. In the spring of 2007, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Sports Management and Marketing. Currently working on his Masters of Business Administration and recently served on our Athletic Director Search Committee. Lashawna Sampson, Student Body Vice President

Lashawna is a Senior Marketing major from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lashawna hasn’t been apart of Student Government as long as most of the members, but is ready to jump right in and start making changes for Marshall. This is Lashawna’s first year serving an executive position on Marshall University’s Student Government, but isn’t a stranger to the student affairs department. She has served as the Student Activities Vice President in 2007 and served the next year as President. Lashawna has also been a brother of Delta Sigma Pi, a coed professional business fraternity since 2007, and is currently serving as the Vice President of Community Service. Matt James, Chief-of-Staff
Matt is a first-year graduate student pursuing his MA degree in counseling. He received his BS degree in biology with minors in both chemistry and political science from MU in May 2009. A native of Bluefield, WV – he is the proud son of Joe and Angel James. Matt has been involved in Student Government throughout his tenure at MU, culminating in his term as student body president during the 2008-2009 school year. Last year he also represented MU on the WV State Advisory Council of Students, serving as chairman. Matt currently serves as both the chief-of-staff for the Hornbuckle-Sampson administration, in addition to being the student representative on the MU Board of Governors. As a three-year senator for the College of Science, Matt served as judiciary chairman, community service chairman, and ultimately senate president pro-tempore. Representing SGA during homecoming festivities two years ago, Matt was named Mr. Marshall 2007.
Matt has also been very active in his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, for the past five years – leading his brothers to three consecutive MU chapter of excellence titles from 2007-2009. During his time as a brother Matt has held numerous positions including: community service chairman, risk management officer, and scholarship officer. He was also a three-year member of the executive board, serving two terms as president and one term as vice-president. Ultimately, he was awarded MU chapter president of the year in 2007, and MU greek man of the year in 2008. Last year, Matt was nominated by the MU Greek Affairs office for the National Undergraduate Award of Distinction. Recently, he was appointed to serve as an alumni advisor to his chapter – overseeing philanthropy and community service.
Matt also currently serves as the graduate assistant to the John Marshall Emerging Leaders Institute within student affairs. He is an active student advocate/justice on the MU judicial affairs hearing board and he is the president of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. He is a past MU student ambassador, orientation leader, and member of the MU Relay for Life committee. Matt and his fiancé, Sara, are planning a wedding for summer 2011. Aaron Ryan, Campus Development Director

Aaron is a senior political science major from Beckley, WV. Aaron is a member of the Marching Thunder, the Marshall Maniacs, Student Ambassadors, Pi Sigma Alpha political science honorary, President of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Vice President of the College Republicans, and President of Theta Chi fraternity, as well as an Honors 101 Peer Mentor and Orientation Leader. Starting his third year as part of SGA, Aaron is excited to serve as Campus Development Director this year to help students enjoy their time here at Marshall, and would love to talk to anybody about their ideas to better MU! Kati Bailey, Sevice Projects Director
Kati is a junior from Huntington. She is majoring in nursing with a minor is psychology. She has been in SGA for 2 years and has a passion for social justice. She is a part of several orginaztions on campus including Darfur: Breaking the Silence, People Reaching Out with Love (PROWL), Student Nurses Assosiation, Nursing Christian Fellowship, etc. She also believes it’s impossible for you to even begin to understand her by reading this small, professional paragraph and would love it if you would just stop by her office and talk. Will Holland, Communications Director

Will is Political Science Graduate student from Parkersburg, WV. He is beginning his second year on SGA, and his first on the executive branch. He is part of the Sierra Student Coalition, the Resident Director of Gibson Hall, and an avid volunteer for the City of Huntington. Michael Wright, Greek Life Coordinator

Michael is a senior Public Relations major from Mechanicsville, VA. Michael is currently spending his second year on the executive staff in Marshall University’s Student Government. Last year Michael served as the Athletic Liasion for Student Government. Michael is a brother of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, where he has held executive offices and served over 250 community service hours. Michael is the current Inter Fraternal Council president and also is spending his fourth year on the Marshall University cheerleading team. Christabel Danby Cobbina, Multiculural Affairs Director

Christabel is a recent Marshall University graduate with a in B.S. Biotechnology and a minor in Biology. Ms. Danby-Cobbina hails from South Charleston West Virginia where she graduated from South Charleston High School in 2005. Christabel has participated in numerous on campus groups such as Society of Black Scholars, Student Ambassadors, Black United Students, and the Residents Hall Association. Ms. Danby-Cobbina’s honors include the Cleckley Memorial Scholarship, Paul J. Mayer Leadership West Virginia Scholarship, and the West Virginia Business Plan Competition finalist.
