NASA Research Enhancement Award (REA)

The Marshall University NASA WV Space Grant Consortium Advisory Committee is accepting proposals for research related to science and engineering.  This is a research program with the objective of stimulating NASA related research at Marshall University.

 

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

  1. Eligibility: The award is available for full-time tenure track faculty in the College of Science, College of Liberal Arts, or the College of Information Technology and Engineering. Students and faculty receiving direct support under this grant must be U.S. citizens.   
  2. Limits: One submission per faculty member. Previous awardees are ineligible for a Research Enhancement Award the year following their award.
  3. Projects must be related to science and engineering, with science being defined broadly to include any research topic of interest to NASA.
  4. Budget: Total budget may not exceed $6,000 which includes a $3000 institutional cost share. The source of the cost share needs to be documented in the application. NASA funds may not be used for foreign travel. No equipment purchases (>$5000 per unit) are allowed on NASA funds.
  5. Collaboration with researchers in other departments, in industry and/or at NASA is encouraged, but not required.
  6. Priority will be given to science faculty who are striving to initiate or establish support for their research and/or are proposing interdepartmental research projects.  Women and minorities are highly encouraged to apply.
  7. The project is expected to be completed in one year, with a progress report due in Feb. and a final report due by Dec. of the following year. All funds must be spent by July 31, 2012.

PROPOSAL FORMAT

 

TITLE PAGE:               Project title, Primary Investigator, Co-Investigator(s), Marshall campus address, phone, fax and e-mail and total budget request.

 

SUMMARY:                 Provide a brief summary of the proposed research using no more than three (3) single spaced pages.  Clearly state: 1) objectives, 2) significance of the project, 3) approach used to achieve the objectives, and 4) the specific outcomes of the project tasks.

 

BUDGET:                    Provide a detailed one-page budget summary describing and justifying each project costs including your arrangements to obtain the $3000 in Marshall matching funds. Only 50%  of the requested funds can be used to purchase equipment (and from the cost-share contribution only as no equipment may be purchased with NASA funds) or faculty summer salary (from the NASA WV Space Grant Consortium budget only). Grants can not be used to support travel outside of the USA.  

 

APPENDICES:             Provide a one page CV for each investigator.  Also, include a statement of how the project will improve the applicant's professional development [limit 250 words].
