Objectives

The main objective is to learn basic Web design for the mass media. By the end of the semester you will have learned to:

-Recognize good and bad Web design

-Use some hasic hypertext markup language

-Use a WYSIWYG editor (Dreamweaver)

- Create static and/or animated graphics.

- Prepare and post photos online

-Prepare and post audio and video clips online

-Write content for the web

-Apply planning and building skills to an in-class project

-Translate a communication mission into graphic/audio/verbal design elements appropriate to a specific audience and purpose

-Integrate the above into a Web site

 
 
Requirements

-Work in a group to produce a Web showcase for a JMC class or JMC student organization

-Create and use a wiki

-Design and build your personal Web page/site that will showcase your Web design and other mass communication skills to employers

-A review of a substantial news media or agency site

-A brief autobiography for Web publication, with appropriate links

-A series of in-class exercises to develop basic Web building skills

-Graduate students will be required to do an additional project

 
Software

Students will use:

-Dreamweaver to build their Web sites

-Flash to create animations, build audio slideshows and present video

-Photoshop and Fireworks to edit images and graphics

and other Adobe programs to complete projects.

 

What you'll learn
