Why you are here

One of the most important functions of the alumni group is to find ways to raise money for the School of Journalism and help support the needs of the students. Our Spring fundraising event, The Third House, goes a long way in reaching that goal but we decided with state budgets shrinking and the need for new equipment expanding that an additional fund raiser in the fall was needed.
In 2004, I thought of a walkathon because that is something that everyone can get involved in regardless of your athletic ability. My alumni officers agreed that this could be a fun and easy way to raise money for the school of Journalism.
I met with Dr. Dennison, dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and we began getting others involved with the planning for first walkathon in 2004. We had more than 150 student walkers and raised more than $4,000 for new computers, digital cameras and scholarships. It's exciting to be part of an event where students, faculty and alumni are all pitching in together to make it a success.
My hope is that in addition to raising money, the J-walk fundraisers will help the school of journalism take a big step forward in terms of recognition on campus and the community.
